MSW 5 was created with three primary areas of focus. Education, medical research, and the alleviation of poverty. While there are numerous worthy causes in need of support in our chaotic world, we believe the extreme inequality that exists today threatens the very fabric of society. It is our humble hope that by targeting some of the sources of inequality that we can do our part in making the world a better place.
EDUCATION
In many parts of the world a basic quality education is not the norm and many families must choose between the necessities of life, or education. A basic K-12 education, and preferably post-secondary vocational or academic training, can be the linchpin to economic upliftment. In today’s knowledge based society, education can provide the means by which those at the most challenging rungs of the economic ladder can lift themselves up, and break the cycle of generational economic strife to which they would otherwise be relegated. By partnering with organizations that focus on supporting education for the underprivileged segments of society, we hope to make a difference.
MEDICAL RESEARCH
We still know very little about the human brain. To this day, there are decades old illnesses for which there is no cure or therapy. Universal healthcare is not a foregone conclusion in many developed nations, let alone in the developing world. In some parts of the world, a terminal diagnosis not only affects the patient, but spells economic disaster for their immediate and extended family who must cope with a lifetime of healthcare related debt. With this backdrop, MSW 5 Foundation hopes to improve lives by supporting medical research and research hospitals that have a particular emphasis on neurology, and partner with organizations that provide economic support to financially challenged families affected by a healthcare catastrophe.
ALLEVIATING POVERTY
Humanity has come a long way in the past 25 years in reducing the number of people living below the poverty threshold. At the same time, those that remain afflicted by poverty are suffering more than ever. In some parts of the world, displaced families are now second-generation dwellers in refugee camps, with no hope of a bright future. In supporting global NGOs focused on delivering support to these populations, MSW 5 hopes to bring some hope and solace, as well as support organizations that advocate long term solutions for the disenfranchised.
